The Nine Lives of Chloe King Recap: Valentina Confronts Whitley Rezza in "All Apologies"

SPOILER ALERT: Don’t read this post or the comments until you’ve watched Episode 1.04 of The Nine Lives of Chloe King: “All Apologies.”

Tonight’s episode of The Nine Lives of Chloe King was very eventful. Not only did Chloe King learn all about empathy, she also saved a friend who was in danger–and her mentor and Mai leader, Valentina, showed the Order who’s boss!

Here’s a recap of how it all went down:

The whole episode focused on a succession of things that went wrong for Chloe King. She’s been training diligently to get in combat-ready mode, trying to control her new powers, and making a noble attempt at balancing schoolwork, relationships and friends. Unfortunately, this week was tougher than most for Chloe. Upon discovering that her co-worker Lana was being terrorized by an ex-boyfriend, Chloe knew she had to step up . . . and she stepped into even more responsibilities.

Thankfully, all ended well in Chloe-land, and the biggest shocker of the night was Valentina’s visit to Whitley Rezza’s home. When Whitley returned to his study, he was startled to find Valentina waiting for him. He tried to pour himself a drink while casually grabbing for his gun, but Valentina was one step ahead of him. (She had already removed the gun from Whitley’s s hiding place-which totally rattled him.) Then, with angry, flashing eyes, Valentina got very . . . threatening:

“I just want you to know,” she told Willis, “that if the girl is so much as touched, I know where to find you…and your son.”

Although we like Brian and don’t want to see him end up in the crossfire between the Order of the Tenth Blade and the Mai, Valentina’s confidence and bravery seriously wowed us. She’s really looking out for Chloe (at least it seems so). What a kick-ass mentor!

The Nine Lives of Chloe King Mini Marathon!

THE NINE LIVES OF CHLOE KING - "Redemption" - (ABC FAMILY/ERIC MCCANDLESS) Skyler Samuels

Nearly four weeks have passed since ABC Family’s new supernatural series, The Nine Lives of Chloe King, premiered. And what a glorious four weeks they’ve been, complete with sharp dialogue, shocking deaths, and major ass kickings. Needless to say, we’re obsessed with Chloe King and her dangerous Mai journey.

We’re definitely pumped for an ALL NEW episode on Tuesday, July 5th at 8/7c. Alek and Jasmine will be teaching Chloe how to control her powers and, somewhere between classes, work and training, Chloe will be using her abilities to help out a friend in need. (We wonder who it’ll be!)

However, if you aren’t yet caught up to episode 1.04, “All Apologies,” no worries! ABC Family is treating viewers to a special Chloe King marathon event that starts at 4/3c and offering a free download of the premiere episode HERE.

The Nine Lives of Chloe King: Watch a Clip from Episode 1.04, "All Apologies"

The Nine Lives of Chloe King is gonna be sick this week. From a mini Chloe King marathon beginning at 4/3 c on July 5th to an ALL NEW episode at 9/8 c, Independence Day week will include plenty of Mai action! Watch the ABC Family preview for episode 1.04, “All Apologies,” below and see just what Jasmine and Alek have in store for Chloe King:

That obstacle course looks crazy–all that running and tumbling is wearing us out so props to Chloe for being able to keep up with Jas and A. But damn! They want her to leap across that vast space and land on another rooftop? Looks awfully high! Considering Chloe lost her first life by being shoved out of Coit Tower by the Rogue, we’re guessing her desire to jump across buildings is minimal.

Skyler Samuels on Being Paired up with Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars is one of the hottest shows around and, as it turns out, we’re not the only ones obsessed with P- to-the-double-L. The wonderful Skyler Samuels of The Nine Lives of Chloe King (aka one of our top favorite shows of the summer), recently revealed that she’s totally stoked about sharing the ABC Family Tuesday spotlight with Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily:

Moderator: “So Chloe King debuts with Pretty Little Liars next week. How do you feel that the show sort of fits in to the ABC Family Network?”

Skyler Samuels: “Well, ABC Family has an absolutely incredible job in producing these hit shows. The ABC Family is where the good stuff’s at. I’m so excited to be a part of this network because they’ve really done a great job introducing shows that are heartfelt, that are exciting, that are kind of everything you’d want; everyday there’s something new and there’s something great to watch. But being paired with Pretty Little Liars is a high honor, in my opinion. I’m so excited, and I think it’s going to be really great, because I feel like the ABC Family audience, while they’ve gotten a lot of really great shows like Pretty Little Liars and now Switched at Birth, they’ve never had a genre show before. They’ve never had action in the way that Chloe King has action, and excitement, and thrills. So I think Chloe King will only add to the excitement of being great shows on ABC Family.”

Skyler’s so on point about all the action. We go from A stalking the Liars to the Order of the Tenth Blade stalking Chloe King. Creepy? Yes! High packed excitement? Obvisouly! Lots of L-M-A-O moments? You better believe it! Basically, we love having two awesome back-to-back shows to jumpstart our week with.

After seeking redemption for Xavier’s death in last week’s episode, Chloe King continued on her perilous Mai journey by meeting San Francisco Mai  leader, Valentina, and finding out about the hardships that lay ahead.

Tom Dickinson at The Faster Times: “Superheroes have been conflicted about how to protect their loved ones for as long as there have been superheroes, and the work/life balance is always going to be an issue as well. This is not, in and of itself, a particular problem for The Nine Lives of Chloe King, because so far it’s hitting all of the appropriate beats for Chloe as a character and it is so far hitting them well.”

Yet, Valentina warns that each death will be more painful than the last. It takes away/and gives some peril to the main character — Chloe really could have drowned and lost one of her lives. Human versus Mai: Who won you over in Episode 1.03, “Green Star”?

Chloe King has a tough dilemma on her hands and, sooner or later, she’s going to have to face it and make one final decision. Brian or Alek–who will she choose? Join us as we conduct a weekly comparison of Chloe’s handsome men right after each new episode airs. This week, we’re focusing on “Green Star.”

Brian versus Alek on Ep.103 of The Nine Lives of Chloe King:

Brian: He’s really into Chloe and even took it as far as to set up an “accidental” run-in. In ep 1.03, he set up shop in the used bookstore cafe (conveniently next to Chloe’s place of employment) and invited her on a third date (to dinner and a music festival). Unfortunately, he’s human, meaning that he’s off limits and Chloe has no choice but to break his heart. Still, Brian was ever the gentleman this week. From assisting Chloe with placing shirts on a hard-to-reach shelf to waiting for her while she battled the Rogue, Brian proved that he’s determined to win over her affections once and for all.

Alek:We gotta hand it to Alek–the guy’s got swagger. He randomly pops into Chloe’s life whenever he feels like it and showers her with flirtatious innuendos. We honestly couldn’t help but blushing when he plopped on her bed and offered to help her “relax,” or how he continued laying there calmly, even when her mom walked in on their conversation. However, cocky attitude aside, Alek’s constantly looking out for the Mai Uniter. When Chloe asked him to watch over her mom while she rushed off to the fight the Rogue, he did so without any hesitation. Moreover, he remained guarding her mom throughout the whole night. (Insert major swooning.)
