ABC Family’s new series, The Nine Lives of Chloe King, just aired its seventh episode, and it was filled to the brim with danger. So, was Chloe’s latest surprise visitor one of the good guys? Let’s just say there’s a reason we’re told never to take candy from strangers–and “Dogs of War” showed how being too trusting can backfire!

The Nine Lives of Chloe King, Episode 1.07 in 9 Steps:

1. Chloe, Amy and Paul are hanging out at Varese Vintage when Paul makes an observation that a customer might be shoplifting. Chloe gets an empathy hit off of the guy and realizes that he’s terrified. She offers him food and coffee.
2. Before the homeless teen can even take a bite out of the scrumptious cookie Chloe offers him, Alek and Jasmine burst into the store and begin chasing after the mysterious guy. Turns out, he’s not so helpless –unless you consider Jackals, with razor sharp fangs and foul smell, innocent.
3. Chloe unleashes her heartbreaking woes about Brian Rezza onto Amy. Naturally, Amy translates that into, ”Let’s hook Chloe up with the next best thing –a Mai Guy!” She and Paul then pay Alek a visit at his lavish pad to ask him for advice. However, Amy discovers Alek’s true feelings about Chloe and realizes that the healing remedy for Choe’s broken heart is standing right in front of her. Homeboy’s in love with the Uniter!
4. Chloe and Mother Meredith’s boo officially meet! Chloe approves of Frank (especially after he treats her to a cup of freshly roasted coffee), and she’s glad that her mom’s so happy and clearly smitten with this guy.
5. Chloe tracks Kai (the “homeless” teen) down in an alley and offers to help him. Even though Jackals are the Mai’s mortal enemies, Chloe’s instincts tell her that he’s scared. Thus, she does what any reasonable teen girl would do and brings him back to her pad. (He’s super cute–why not?!) Of course she has him sleep in the attic because the last thing she wants is Mother Meredith to think she’s a hussy, always escorting guys in and out of the King household. Still, she assures Kai that she will get him home safely and, when Alek pops on by, he gives Chloe his word that he’ll assist her on the “The Mai Help Kai” mission.
6. Chloe visits Valentina and basically tells her that she’s planning on lending Kai a hand, regardless of what V thinks. Chloe’s the Uniter and an Empath, so she’s trusting the gifts that have been attributed to her. Valentina agrees…at least while Chloe is present. Once Chloe leaves the apartment, she plots a whole new plan and instructs Jasmine and Alek to text her when they get close to the Jackal nest so that Mai warriors can barge in and destroy them all.
7. Chloe thinks she’s doing the right thing by helping Kai but soon feels foolish when it becomes apparent that Kai has double-crossed. (The worst part is that Alek and Jasmine decided not to text Valentina with the Jackals’ location–so Kai’s trap becomes an even more dangerous one!) The jackals corner Chloe as she tries to save Amy and Paul, and the largest member of the pack begins strangling her with his bare hands. However, Alek pops out and charges into him. Bad move. The Jackal begins beating on poor Alek, pounding mercilessly on his face. Just as Alek is on the brink of death, Chloe drops the scared girl act and goes all Mai on the Jackal’s ass–but ultimately shows him compassion and spares his life. You go girl!
8. Even though Chloe won this round of Mai versus Jackals, the day isn’t filled with relief. Meredith presents Chloe with some documents and tells her that she plans on declaring her father  (who’s been MIA for 10 years) officially dead. Uh-oh. Mer doesn’t know that Chloe and her dad have been emailing each other but Chloe can’t tell her mom without revealing her secret identity.
9. The biggest shocker for us, from “Dogs of War,” was when Chloe and Alek kissed. It happened at the perfect moment–right at the end of a bewildering episode. (And, yep…we totally swooned!)
